Steps for Kids Comes Sunday

Steps

This Sunday May 1st, more than 500 people will join Lutherwood to celebrate the beginning of Children’s Mental Health Week. Lutherwood ‘s annual Steps for Kids fundraising event is expected to raise more than $100,000 while encouraging the community to break down the stigma of having a mental illness by talking about it.

“Each year, Steps for Kids brings our community together in a collective show of support for youth struggling with their mental health,” said Donna Buchan, Executive Director of the Lutherwood Child and Family Foundation. “The event builds community while raising awareness of children’s mental health and funds for specialized programs that help children at Lutherwood.”

Starting at Lutherwood’s Children's Mental Health Centre at 285 Benjamin Road in Waterloo, participants will walk a 3 km or 5 km loop of treed paths and beautiful St Jacobs countryside to finish back at Lutherwood where there will be family activities, live performances, snacks and refreshments.

Lutherwood is a not-for-profit health and social service organization that supports youth with mental health issues, people at risk of being homeless, workers looking for employment and families in need of counselling. Its services are accessed by more than 15,500 people annually in Waterloo Region and Wellington County.

"I didn't know anything about the children's mental health system when my daughter first needed help. Since then, Lutherwood has given us so much. Being part of the Committee is a way I can give back and make the system even better."
