Better Jobs Ontario
(formerly known as Second Career)This government-funded retraining program helps laid off, unemployed or under-employed individuals find work in skilled occupations that are in demand in Ontario. Better Jobs Ontario funding may cover the costs of tuition, books, living expenses and other costs associated with the training up to a maximum of $28,000. The training:
- can be up to 52 weeks
- can be occupation specific
- can include academic upgrading or language training if part of a specific skills training program
- can be full-time or part-time (additional criteria apply if part-time)
Apprenticeship
If you are considering a career in the skilled trades, our staff can offer information on available apprenticeship opportunities and programs and help you get started in the process. In partnership with the CLAC Foundation and Herzing College, we also offer pre-apprenticeship training tuition funding to eligible clients who could not otherwise afford the costs of training. Trainings include:

Safety Training
In partnership with the CLAC Foundation and CLAC-Ontario Training, we offer training support for individuals looking for work and lacking the necessary certification. Starling Employment Services will assist eligible individuals in funding their safety training through CLAC - Ontario Training with courses, including:
- First Aid and CPR
- Working at Heights
- WHMIS 2015
- Forklift Operator
- Hazard and Risk Management
- Joint Health and Safety Committee
- Mental Health First Aid
- Health and Safety Representative Training
- and more
