If you and your family are at imminent risk of becoming homeless, we understand the kind of stress and uncertainty you must be feeling. Our Families in Transition team is here to help.

We can walk you through steps you can take to prevent homelessness, refer your family to a shelter, or work to rehouse you quickly to avoid your family being without a home. We will also continue to work with you to maintain your new housing.

Accessing Emergency Shelter

If you are a family with dependents under 24 years of age and are or at risk of homelessness within 7 days, please call our Families in Transition (FIT) program at 519-749-2450 or e-mail fitreferrals@lutherwood.ca.

What is Families in Transition (FIT)?

Lutherwood’s Families in Transition (FIT) program helps families in Waterloo Region access emergency shelter when they have no other safe, affordable place to stay.

Our Counsellors provide a variety of services to families, including:

Prevention and diversion to prevent a shelter stay whenever possible
Referrals to shelter with rapid re-housing support to re-house your family from shelter as quickly as possible
Home-based support to help your family maintain housing once re-housed

During the intake process, your FIT Counsellor will determine your family’s strengths and needs to provide you with individualized resources and supports.

Please note: wait lists for affordable housing for families in Waterloo Region are very lengthy and families can only access subsidized housing through the regular waitlist when homeless. Complete a subsidized housing application form.
