Court Diversion Program
A youth’s charges can be handled through Diversion. At the time of a youth’s first appearance or bail hearing in court, Starling's Youth Mental Health Court Worker will assess the needs of the youth and set goals with them and their family/caregiver.
Goals are treatment focused and aimed to reduce the possibility of re-offending and to increase the youth’s overall wellbeing.
The duration of the program is typically six months and the matter will be updated in court on two occasions to report progress on goal areas. Upon successful completion of the program, the youth’s charges are withdrawn by the courts.
