Waterloo, April 25, 2016 - Parenting a child who is struggling with a mental illness can be very challenging. Fortunately, Waterloo Region has many agencies that offer services to help children, youth and their families learn how to cope. Twelve of these agencies will be at the Cambridge Centre and Conestoga Malls on Saturdays April 30 and May 7 respectively as part of the AHA! Wellness Works exposition.

Kitchener, ON: The demand for child and youth mental health care has been steadily rising and families need better access to the system. So Front Door is now providing Walk-in Counselling on Saturdays.

Self Help Alliance, CMHA and Lutherwood are excited to offer the Skills for Safer Living group to youth aged 14-16 who have experienced thoughts of suicide, self-harm and/or are engaging in self-harming behaviours.

With a $20,000 funding grant from Bell Let’s Talk Community Fund, Lutherwood is expanding its pilot Connect Parenting Group program to help parents and guardians build healthier relationships with their teenage children, support their child’s mental health needs and access other community services as required.

Umind is pleased to announce that it has been selected as one of the first independent Connected Sites on the new CAMH Portico Network.

Thank you Hockey Helps the Homeless for being a game changer and raising $101,000 for five local homeless support charities including Lutherwood's Safe Haven Shelter.

Lutherwood and seven local agencies have begun transforming the system to ensure that children, youth and their families will know what children’s mental health services are available and get the support they need. 

Affecting 3-5% of our population, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) is the leading cause of developmental disability in Canada. Children with FASD often have their disabilities misunderstood due to limited knowledge and understanding of what FASD is. As a result, many children are still undiagnosed.
