Lutherwood Unveils New Elevator as Part of Accessibility Project
on November 1, 2019
Cambridge, ON – On Friday, Lutherwood welcomed residents of Cambridge to its Open House to celebrate the completion of its newly renovated office space. Local MPP Belinda Karahalios and OTF Board member Mary Heinen were on hand to congratulate Lutherwood and hear more how the $54,500 OTF Capital grant increased accessibility to its office space.
Access to services is important for everyone regardless of any physical limitations they live with or accommodations they may need,” said Belinda Karahalios, MPP for Cambridge. “I’m very pleased to see this funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation being used to remove a physical barrier that once meant many people in our community were not able to make use of and benefit from services at Lutherwood.”
Lutherwood will now have better access to housing, employment as well as Child and Parent Place (CAPP) services with the addition of an elevator at 35 Dickson Street address.
The elevator was built between May 28th and August 28th of this year by Melloul-Blamey Construction Inc. who did an incredible job both with their work and accommodating the needs of Lutherwood staff by providing services during construction. And thanks to the $54,500 in funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, people of all abilities will be able to access both levels of the building.
“When a mom with a stroller or person with a disability turns to us for help with their employment or housing needs, the last thing they need is to overcome another barrier,” said John Colangeli, CEO of Lutherwood. “We are very grateful to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for helping to make our services readily accessible so everyone in the community may benefit.”
Lutherwood is a progressive, not-for-profit health and social service organization that strengthens people's lives by providing mental health, employment and housing services to more than 15,000 people annually in Waterloo Region and Wellington County.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations. OTF awarded $108 million to 629 projects last year to build healthy and vibrant communities in Ontario.
