Market Morning Mindfulness at Lutherwood
Immediate Release
- Mental wellness tool offered to public for free
- Mindfulness reduces stress and anxiety
Waterloo, September 16, 2016 – It can happen to youth and adults alike – the stress of a new season and a busy life can get to any of us. Starting Thursday September 22, Lutherwood is offering an interactive introduction to the DBT-I mindfulness techniques used so successfully in Lutherwood’s mental health programs for youth. Originally a cognitive behavioral treatment developed to treat chronically suicidal individuals, DBT (Dialectic Behaviour Therapy) is effective in treating a wide range of other disorders such as depression, substance dependence, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and eating disorders.
Lutherwood Psychologist Dr. Liz Orr will be presenting a series of short, fun activities designed to encourage participants to be fully aware and present in the moment. It has proven to be a useful tool in managing mental health issues among at-risk youth.
“Mindfulness is a good mental wellness tool for everyone as it reduces stress and anxiety” said Jacqui Terry-Carroll, event organizer. “This is a great opportunity to get some practical tools you can use in your life. We hope people come out after their visit to St Jacobs Market, and bring a friend!”
The series will take place on Thursday mornings on September 22nd, October 13th and 27th, and November 10th and 24th from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at 285 Benjamin Road in Waterloo.
For more information on the workshop, email Jacqui Terry-Carroll or call 519-884-1470, or sign up online at EventBrite.

"My first year, I didn't want to be here (and) did everything I could to try to get out. But eventually, I trusted these kind people with my life. I'm so glad I did because if I hadn't, I might have ended up in prison."
