on October 5, 2016
CAMBRIDGE, ON (OCTOBER 4, 2016) – Today, Cowan Insurance Group, along with The Cowan Foundation, announced that more than $107,000 was raised at the 2016 Cowan Charity Classic golf tournaments in support of youth mental health initiatives at Lutherwood in Waterloo Region and Youth Services Bureau (YSB) in Ottawa.
Annually, Cowan Insurance Group hosts the Cowan Charity Classic golf tournaments in both the Waterloo and Ottawa Regions in support of Canadian non-profit organizations. This year marked the 15th annual event in Waterloo Region, held at Deer Ridge Golf Club, and the 5th annual event in Ottawa, held at Eagle Creek Golf Club. Each year, different Canadian non-profit organizations are selected to receive the funds raised at the tournaments, which are also matched by The Cowan Foundation.
Lutherwood and Youth Services Bureau are the lead agencies for children’s mental health in their respective communities and are responsible for ensuring that a range of services is available for children and families struggling with mental health challenges. Services include prevention, counseling, education, as well as treatment in families’ homes, the community, and treatment centres. The proceeds from the tournament will support ongoing services in both communities.

"I was 17, confused and thought I was a lost cause. I became homeless. I heard about Safe Haven's youth shelter, but was skeptical and scared. [But] the staff are extremely friendly and so supportive...I wasn't judged. They showed me how to cook, do a budget, and even helped me with my homework."
