Lutherwood Steps for Kids a Huge Success
Waterloo – Lutherwood’s fifth annual Steps for Kids walk was a huge success.
On a beautiful, sunny Sunday May 5, a crowd gathered at Lutherwood’s Children’s Mental Health Centre on Benjamin Road in Waterloo to raise money for and awareness of children’s mental health.
A record of more than 400 people (up from about 80 last year) raised more than $71,000 and donations were still coming in after the event. The increase in participation was credited primarily to the sponsorship and support of RBC Foundation and Open Text, both of which registered several employee teams.
Families, couples, and individuals brought strollers and family dogs as they walked or jogged the five kilometre route ambling through the beautiful north Waterloo and south Woolwich countryside including the Trans-Canada and Avon Trails.
“This was truly a fantastic turnout and the level of energy in the crowd was tremendous,” said Donna Buchan, Executive Director, Lutherwood Child and Family Foundation. “We are so grateful to our sponsors and community for putting their energy and their hearts into supporting kids who struggle with their mental health.”
Funds raised at the event will help enhance Lutherwood's children’s mental health live-in and day treatment programs and community services in Waterloo Region.
