Homelessness Awareness Week Open House

KITCHENER, April 17, 2012 – Lutherwood’s Housing Services are now consolidated at 41 Weber St W in Kitchener.

To kick off Homeless Awareness Week (April 23 to 27), Lutherwood is hosting an Open House which will include tours of the newly renovated building, including the Safe Haven youth shelter. There will be displays and staff available to offer information about our housing programs.

The Ontario government is investing $2.5 million each year to connect youth living in the Region of Waterloo to specialized mental health care where they need it, closer to home.

This investment will enable the creation of a new step-up step-down live-in treatment program that supports youth in their transition home from inpatient hospital or secure treatment care, to less intensive community-based services.

Grounding skills help us move our attention away from our thoughts and focus on our physical body or the world around us. One helpful way to practice grounding skills is by using our five senses!

If you have difficulty identifying distinct smells or tastes, there is a positive twist you can put on this exercise. After you go through the five things you see, four things you feel, and three things you hear, name two things that make you happy and one thing that is great about you!
