Speed Networking Helps Jobseekers

July 11, 2011 – One of the most effective job search tools is networking. But not everyone finds networking easy. So on June 14th, Lutherwood’s Guelph office launched a trial Speed Networking event that turned out to be a huge success.

Ten job seekers spent an hour and a half meeting other participants. Rotating around the room, they had only five minutes to meet each participant. Armed with three prepared questions to get the discussion rolling, they learned a bit about each other, shared their personal job searching experiences, offered each other ideas and leads, and generally built their confidence in their ability to network.

“We want to help our clients become comfortable networking with people they don’t know,” adds Sherri McDermid, Program Manager at Lutherwood’s Guelph office. “To truly help people find work, we need to go beyond giving our clients tools and strategies, we need to give them experience and comfort using those tools and applying those strategies so they are more likely to succeed. Judging by the noise level in the room and the positive comments afterward, the trial session was a terrific success so we will be holding more of these events for our clients.”

The next two Speed Networking events are July 12 and August 16 at Lutherwood’s Guelph office. Pre-registration is required for this free event and space is limited. To register visit the Guelph office at 30 Wyndham St N or call 519-822-4141.

"I didn’t notice it at the time, but Lutherwood was an instrumental part of my development growing up.”
