Speakers Series 2011

April 11, 2011 - Lutherwood’s mental health speakers’ series is being held in Cambridge this Spring. Shh… It’s Mental Health - our popular four seminar series - supports family, friends and neighbours who want to help teens dealing with mental health issues.

It happens. Children seem to be developing just fine until their teenage years when small behavioural issues escalate into much larger problems. While problems may be dismissed as struggles with independence or changes in hormones, they could be a sign of mental health problems. Parents are reluctant to ask for help because no parent wants that mental health label on their child. So parents feel alone and powerless, while their teens suffer in silence.

One in five Canadian youth have a treatable mental health issue and our silence reinforces a stigma that stops our teens from seeking treatment.

Help us break the silence. Let’s open a critical dialogue that makes teenage mental health more understood and allows more people to get treatment. Join any of our upcoming seminars (click the link to hear our radio ads courtesy of the Rogers Kitchener Radio Group):

"I started to harm myself and even attempted to take my life. I hit rock bottom. My Lutherwood counsellor was different – she listened. Once I realized that she truly cared, I began to trust and open up to her.”
